The Daily Game Ritual is a gaming platform with a cause.
Every day I play simple online games with my wife, it is our ritual. A thing I look forward to at the end of the working day. And you know, one day I just got tired of seeing video ads and I just wanted to create something even more fun than the games we were playing. I started developing games my self and while doing so I had a realisation: games have been the connective catalyst in my life. Both my wife and I travel a lot for work and other things. We have family in different countries and we are not always able to be together or with our family, but we can always connect online. When I thought about all the friendships and connections I've made over the years, sadly a lot of them haven't survived. But I did see a basic pattern. I met most of these people through games, whether it was sport, online games or offline (cards). And the moment the games stopped was the moment the connections started to get weaker. It made me realise: those who play together, stay together. Now I'm in my forties, I regret not having kept the play alive with so many people. But I'm going to turn that aroudn in a big way.
Having studied psychology, I know the benefits of play on health and the mind. Games evoke the playful mindset and it just shifts the mood and how we connect. As I started developing games I became very passionate about the prospect of helping people get in this mindset and improving the connections they have with the people they care about.
I also travel a lot, and I visit many different communities. I always enjoy seeing local businesses and independent shops, they make this world a more unique place when most of the worlds is bulldozed by sameness and monopolies. Well, I want to help these business and smaller organisations connect with their communities through play by providing fun gaming experiences and helping them reach people in their neighbourhood. Long term, that is the goal to help spread fun and help the organisations that add uniqueness to the world and get people connected. We're going to do this in unconventional ways.
You know how the game industry is currently. There's a lot of video ads, scummy marketing schemes, pay-to-win mechanics and endless optimisation toward inducing addictive behaviours. For triple AAA games we tend to see a lot of toxic userbases. Well, we're going to do things very differently. We're going to create highly personalised games with no video ads and without building ad profiles of our players. We're going to build it around a cause: connecting people around a fun daily gaming ritual experience tailored to connecting with the people we care about. At the core our games will be easy to understand, short in duration and put together in a a delightful way with personalised touches you won't find elsewhere. Games most people can find time for and build a relaxed ritual around.
